WEST INDIES v/s AUSTRALIA, 2024

“RUSSELL, RUTHERFORD SHINE AS WEST INDIES SECURE CONSOLATION VITORY”

Andre Russell blazed his way to a scintillating 71 off just 29 deliveries, showcasing his explosive batting prowess.

Andre Russell’s explosive innings, scoring 71 off just 29 deliveries, combined with Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 67 off 40 balls and Roston Chase’s all-round brilliance, clinched a remarkable 37-run victory for West Indies over Australia in the final T20I in Perth on Tuesday (February 13).

This consolatory win marked the end of the tour for the visitors, following Australia’s series-clinching victories in the previous two matches.

Russell and Rutherford’s aggressive partnership yielded a commanding total of 220 runs, the highest score by a visiting side in Australia in this format.

Despite a shaky start at 17/3, West Indies rallied through a counterattack led by Rovman Powell and Chase, who added 55 runs in just 30 balls.

However, Australia fought back with key wickets from Adam Zampa and Aaron Hardie, reducing West Indies to 79/5.

Yet, Rutherford and Russell turned the tide with a spectacular display of power hitting, particularly in the final six overs, where they plundered 84 runs.

Russell’s brutal assault and Rutherford’s finesse propelled West Indies past the 200-mark to a formidable total.

In response, Australia relied heavily on David Warner’s aggressive batting, as he spearheaded the chase with significant partnerships.

However, Chase’s off-breaks proved decisive, dismissing Warner and Josh Inglis to disrupt Australia’s momentum.

With the required rate escalating and Glenn Maxwell struggling, West Indies seized control, ultimately securing a convincing victory despite a late cameo from Tim David.
