WEST INDIES v/s AUSTRALIA, 2024

Australia dismiss West Indies for a mere 86 runs, sealing a comprehensive 3-0 series whitewash.

Xavier Bartlett shone brightly as his team secured a dominant victory.

In the third ODI in Canberra on Tuesday (February 6), a dismal batting display by West Indies paved the way for Australia’s comfortable eight-wicket victory, completing a 3-0 whitewash of the ODI series.

Once again, Xavier Bartlett stood out with the ball for Australia, claiming impressive figures of 4-21, supported by Lance Morris and Adam Zampa who contributed with two wickets each.

West Indies were bundled out for a mere 86 runs in 24.1 overs.

Australia chased down the target in just 6.5 overs, with Jake Fraser-McGurk and Josh Inglis showcasing their batting prowess.

Alick Athanaze was the highest scorer for West Indies, managing 32 runs off 60 deliveries in an attempt to stabilize the innings.

However, wickets continued to tumble at the other end, with Bartlett, Morris, and Sean Abbott making significant breakthroughs.

West Indies were struggling at 44/4 in the 13th over when debutant Morris was forced off the field due to a side strain.

Despite efforts from Athanaze and Roston Chase to rebuild, West Indies lost momentum after Athanaze’s departure, collapsing to 71/5.

The lower order offered no resistance as West Indies lost their last six wickets for just 15 runs.

Australia’s chase got off to a flying start, with Fraser-McGurk and Inglis forging a rapid 67-run opening partnership.

Fraser-McGurk’s aggressive innings of 41 off 18 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes, set the tone.

Although Aaron Hardie fell quickly to Oshane Thomas, Inglis and Steve Smith guided Australia to victory in the seventh over.
