AUSTRALIA v/s ENGLAND

Guided by captain Hugh Weibgen’s century, Australia convincingly defeated England in their Super Six clash at Kimberley on Wednesday (January 31), maintaining their position at the top of Group 2. Pursuing a target of 266, England found themselves at 60/3 after 9.3 overs when rain interrupted, causing a substantial delay of over two hours. This led to a revised target of 215 in 24 overs. Upon resumption, England struggled and eventually were bowled out for just 104 in 16.5 overs.

Australia, having opted to bat after winning the toss, faced an early setback as right-arm seamer Sebastian Morgan dismissed Sam Konstas for a duck in the first over. However, Weibgen and opener Harry Dixon steadied the ship with a 105-run partnership for the second wicket. Dixon contributed a half-century before his dismissal in the 21st over. Weibgen continued to accumulate runs steadily, reaching his century off 109 balls and eventually being dismissed for 120 in the 48th over, helping Australia reach a total of 266.

In response, England faced early setbacks to right-arm seamer Callum Vidler and were further challenged by the rain delay. The revised target made their task even more daunting, needing to chase 155 runs in close to 15 overs with seven wickets in hand. They eventually collapsed, getting bowled out for just 104.

Brief scores: Australia 266/6 in 50 overs (Hugh Weibgen 120, Harry Dixon 53; Theo Wylie 4/42) defeated England 104 in 16.5 overs (Callum Vidler 4/29) by 110 runs (DLS method).
