THE 2024 SA20 TOURNAMENT

Jansen and Baartman propel Sunrisers into the SA20 final once more

Marco Jansen claimed four wickets to dismantle the Durban Super Giants.

Marco Jansen and Ottniel Baartman’s four-wicket hauls propelled defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape into the final of the SA20 once again, as they overcame Durban Super Giants in the first qualifier at Newlands.

Despite setting a modest target of 157/8, Sunrisers successfully defended it as the Super Giants were bowled out for just 106.

Opting to bat first, Dawid Malan provided Sunrisers with a solid start, but Reece Topley’s economical bowling kept the scoring rate in check.

Jordan Hermann managed to break free briefly with a six, but was soon dismissed by skipper Keshav Maharaj.

Rain interrupted play for nearly two hours before resuming without any overs lost.

Upon resumption, Maharaj struck again to remove Tom Abell lbw.

Malan and Aiden Markram then steadied the innings, with Malan reaching a crucial half-century.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals thereafter, limiting Sunrisers to 47 runs from the final six overs.

In response, the Sunrisers bowlers quickly dismantled the Super Giants’ top order, reducing them to 13/3.

Tony de Zorzi fell to a catch behind the stumps, while Baartman claimed two wickets in an over, including a stunning catch by Markram.

Despite attempts by Quinton de Kock and Wiaan Mulder to stabilize the innings, Sunrisers continued to strike at crucial moments.

Baartman returned for his final spell to dismiss the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen, effectively sealing the game for Sunrisers.

Jansen also returned to clean up the tail, ensuring victory for his team and securing their spot in the final.

Super Giants will now face the winner of the second qualifier between Joburg Super Kings and Paarl Royals.
