Bangladesh’s all-format captain, Shakib al Hasan, has cast uncertainty over his participation in the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka due to ongoing issues with his left eye.

Struggling with blurred vision since the last year’s ODI World Cup, he has adjusted his role in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League for Rangpur Riders, primarily focusing on spin bowling and not batting in two games.

Speaking after Rangpur Riders’ 77-run victory over Sylhet Strikers at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Shakib expressed uncertainty about his availability, stating, “Time will tell.”

He mentioned his intention to consult with officials before making a decision on playing against Sri Lanka.

Additionally, he plans to discuss his future as the ODI captain with the board, having previously hinted at stepping down after the 2023 ODI World Cup.

While regretting not contributing fully to Rangpur Riders as an all-rounder, Shakib emphasized the need to score runs consistently to regain comfort in his game.

Despite his struggles, he remains focused on making a comeback and is not contemplating quitting cricket.

Shakib, diagnosed with a retinal condition in his left eye, is undergoing conservative treatment.

Despite seeking opinions from physicians in England and Singapore, the exact problem with his eyes remains unidentified.

Shakib dismissed concerns about his eyesight and mentioned ongoing efforts to determine the root cause of the issue.

Notably, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suggested a hypnosis session to address Shakib’s psychosomatic problem associated with his eyes.

Explaining the situation, a BCB official clarified that hypnosis is being considered as a stress management method to potentially resolve the psychological aspect of Shakib’s condition.
