SOUTH AFRICA TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND

TEST-1 DAY-2

Ravindra amassed a colossal 240 runs, facing 366 deliveries.

Rachin Ravindra’s maiden three-figure score in Test cricket proved monumental as the 24-year-old crafted an impressive 240 from 366 deliveries.

New Zealand’s quest to overwhelm an inexperienced South Africa with an abundance of runs was successfully initiated, with the team posting a commanding total of 511 before being dismissed.

In response, South Africa struggled to 80 for 4 at stumps.

The second day began with South Africa regrouping after a challenging outing against the formidable partnership of Williamson and Ravindra.

The early breakthrough came when Williamson attempted an unusual shot across the line, only to be caught by Tshepo Moreki at mid-on.

This marked Ruan de Swardt’s first Test wicket after missing opportunities on Day 1 due to dropped catches.

Despite this early setback, Daryl Mitchell joined Ravindra, and the duo added 103 runs off 25.4 overs.

Ravindra exhibited fluent batting throughout the day, punctuating his innings with 26 fours and 3 sixes.

Moving seamlessly from one partnership to another, he maintained pressure on the South African bowlers.

Following the partnership with Mitchell, Ravindra contributed 82 runs alongside Glenn Phillips for the sixth wicket.

However, his innings concluded when he was bowled while attempting to pull a short delivery from South African skipper Neil Brand.

As Ravindra walked off to applause from teammates and opponents alike, Matt Henry provided late entertainment, scoring 27 off 9 balls, including three sixes, taking New Zealand beyond the 500-run mark.

Brand completed his debut with an impressive six-wicket haul.

New Zealand further tightened their grip on the game as their bowlers ruthlessly dismantled South Africa’s top order.

The sequence began with Brand’s dismissal, nicking a delivery from Kyle Jamieson.

Raynard van Tonder fell two balls later, trapped leg before, while Henry dismissed Edward Moore with an awkwardly fended bouncer, caught by Devon Conway at cover point.

Zubayr Hamza became the fourth wicket to fall, similarly attempting to take on spinner Mitchell Santner.

South Africa ended the day at 80 for 4, trailing by 431 runs.
