ENGLAND v/s INDIA TEST SERIES, 2024

There is a possibility that Bumrah might be given a rest for the upcoming third Test against England

Jasprit Bumrah earned the Player of the Match accolade in the second Test

Jasprit Bumrah, the relentless match-winner in the second Test in Visakhapatnam, may be given a break for the upcoming third Test against England.

The national selectors, in consultation with the team management, are contemplating resting Bumrah to ensure he returns rejuvenated for the final two Tests.

Bumrah was rightfully named the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, claiming nine wickets for 91 runs in the just-concluded Test.

Having bowled over 32 overs across four intense days in a high-stakes contest, Bumrah showcased brilliance but may have significantly drained his energy.

The selectors recognize the need for Bumrah to refresh and recharge, especially after bowling nearly 25 overs in the previous Test in Hyderabad, where India suffered a surprise defeat.

Mohammed Siraj, who was rested for the second Test, is expected to be recalled by the selectors to lead the attack in the third game.

This strategic move is aimed at managing the workload for both fast bowlers, considering the absence of Mohammed Shami, who is still recovering from an ankle injury.

Ravindra Jadeja’s full fitness is doubtful for the Rajkot Test due to a hamstring injury, and there are concerns about his participation in the entire series.

However, there is some hope for his comeback at some point during the ongoing series.

The return of Virat Kohli remains uncertain due to a family emergency, with coach Rahul Dravid stating that the team management will connect with Kohli to ascertain his availability for the rest of the series.

KL Rahul is expected to make a comeback for the remainder of the five-Test series.

The third Test in Rajkot is scheduled to start on February 15, and the team selection is anticipated to be finalized on Tuesday (February 6).
