ENGLAND v/s INDIA, 2024

England chips away at India’s lead, but the Indian team continues to extend their advantage.

James Anderson provided England with a dynamic start on Day 3 by claiming two swift wickets.

In a repeat performance from the previous innings, England persistently struck at regular intervals to thwart India’s attempt to bat them out of the game.

Despite India’s mission to extend their overnight lead of 171 on the third morning, England, led by the 41-year-old James Anderson, had different plans.

Anderson set the tone early by producing a delivery that nipped away, breaching Rohit Sharma’s defense.

Subsequently, Yashasvi Jaiswal was caught chasing and nicking a delivery angled across, giving England an ideal start.

England’s fortunes could have been further enhanced if Shubman Gill had not survived two close LBW reviews.

In the first instance, an inside edge against Tom Hartley saved him after being given out.

The second time, he benefited from some extra bounce against Anderson.

Despite these challenges, Gill, along with Shreyas Iyer, mounted a resilient fightback, forming an 81-run partnership.

Gill, under significant pressure, reached a fifty.

However, his partner failed to capitalize on yet another promising start, miscuing a shot against Hartley and getting caught by the alert Ben Stokes, who sprinted from mid-off.

Debutant Rajat Patidar soon followed, getting an under edge that was well taken by Ben Foakes, leaving India in a challenging position at 122/4 before Lunch.

Gill and Axar managed to navigate through the session without further setbacks, providing India with a glimmer of hope.
