ENGLAND v/s INDIA, 2024

England successfully limited India to a total below 400, despite Jaiswal’s impressive double century.

Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved the distinction of being the fourth-youngest Indian cricketer to score a double century in Test cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal single-handedly shouldered the responsibility for India’s first innings, contributing more than half of the team’s runs.

Despite Jaiswal achieving his maiden Test double century in the first session, England, led by a masterful spell from James Anderson with the second new ball, successfully made inroads at the other end, ultimately bowling India out for a total of just 396.

Jaiswal, who began the day with R Ashwin as his overnight partner, aggressively approached the spinners, attempting to accelerate the scoring rate.

However, Anderson’s skillful seam movement and disciplined bowling kept the scoring in check.

Ashwin, after a couple of early boundaries, succumbed to a brilliant delivery from Anderson, edging behind.

As Jaiswal tried to counter Anderson’s persistence, he eventually fell to an attempted aggressive shot, holing out to the deep after an exceptional innings of 209.

The lower-order batsmen couldn’t contribute significantly, and Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir struck quickly, bowling India out for a total below 400.

In response, England’s openers, led by Ben Duckett, capitalized on an inconsistent spell from Mukesh Kumar.

Duckett punished the bowler with five boundaries in a two-over spell, allowing the openers to go unbeaten into Lunch in typical fashion.
