ENGLAND v/s INDIA, 2024

Shreyas Iyer is uncertain to feature in the Rajkot Test due to injury concerns.

Shreyas Iyer has been experiencing back issues recently.

India’s injury concerns in the ongoing five-Test series against England seem to be escalating, as Shreyas Iyer is now likely to miss the upcoming Rajkot Test due to back stiffness, as per sources within the MCA.

According to reports from Cricpulse, the National Cricket Academy has notified the BCCI regarding Iyer’s fitness status.

Interestingly, the squad for the third Test and beyond has yet to be finalized, with sources confirming that the selectors are yet to convene for the meeting.

Initially scheduled for Thursday (February 8), the selectors’ meeting is now expected to take place today, with an official announcement of the squad anticipated thereafter.

This setback adds to Iyer’s ongoing struggles with back issues over the past year.

He had missed the beginning of last year’s Border-Gavaskar series, and his chronic condition resurfaced during the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, prompting considerations for surgical intervention to regain fitness.

His extensive rehabilitation process resulted in a significant absence from cricket, with his return only occurring in August ahead of the Asia Cup.

Despite missing several key players, including Mohammed Shami, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, due to fitness issues in Vizag, India managed to level the series.

The third Test is slated to commence on February 15 in Rajkot.
