ENGLAND TOUR OF INDIA TEST SERIES 2024

2nd Test Day-1 SESSION-1

England assert control by securing two crucial wickets against India.

Debutant Bashir claimed Rohit’s wicket with a dismissal.

England made significant strides with the ball, claiming two crucial wickets after being asked to bowl on the opening day of the second Test, effectively keeping India in check. Despite the Vizag pitch lacking any considerable challenges, India faced staunch opposition due to tight fielding and strategic bowling.

Rohit Sharma, the determined skipper, exhibited a strong defensive approach, forgoing several boundary opportunities presented by the spinners’ errors in length. His 41-ball innings, devoid of boundaries, concluded with him being caught by leg slip while glancing at debutant Shoaib Bashir.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, showcased a more fluent innings, combining watchfulness with opportunistic boundary-hitting against the spinners. Supported by a positive Shubman Gill, who adeptly manipulated the spinners’ lengths with agile footwork and occasional sweeping, the duo built a partnership.

However, England cleverly executed a plan to dismiss the well-set Gill. James Anderson’s second spell before Lunch trapped Gill, who attempted to disrupt Anderson’s lengths by early advances but struggled for comfort. Gill, dismissed by the bowler for the fifth time in seven innings, succumbed to a wide delivery, edging to slip.

Despite Gill’s departure, Jaiswal reached fifty, guiding India to the 100-run mark by the end of the session.
