Trent Boult is poised to make his comeback to the T20I lineup for New Zealand in the forthcoming three-match series against Australia.

The seasoned paceman, who last participated in a T20I in November 2022, has been named in the squad for the second and third T20Is, both scheduled to take place in Auckland.

He will take the spot of Tim Southee, who is set to feature solely in the first T20I to manage his workload before the subsequent two-match Test series.

Joining the 14-man squad are uncapped all-rounder Josh Clarkson and Rachin Ravindra.

Daryl Mitchell, currently recovering from a foot injury, and Kane Williamson, on paternity leave, were unavailable for selection.

Sam Wells, the selector, commented, “It’s never ideal to miss out on two key players for such a significant series, but we have confidence in the incoming players.

Both Josh and Rachin have been part of our white-ball setups this season, and it’s an exciting opportunity for them to showcase their skills now.”

Wells continued, “Josh possesses incredible power hitting abilities, and we were impressed by his bowling performances during his debut ODI series against Bangladesh.

Rachin has displayed remarkable talent and consistency over the past few months, and like Josh, his all-round abilities will be valuable to our squad.”

Michael Bracewell (recovering from a finger injury) and Jimmy Neesham (participating in the Bangladesh Premier League) were also ruled out of contention.

THE SQUAD COMPRISES:

Mitchell Santner (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult (games 2 & 3), Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Devon Conway (wk), Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Adam Milne, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert (wk), Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee (game 1).
