Seam bowler Michael Neser has been reinstated to the Test squad for Australia’s tour of New Zealand.

Neser, who boasts two Test appearances and four ODIs for Australia to date, last graced the Test arena in December 2022.

The 33-year-old’s inclusion is strategic, aligning with the seamer-friendly conditions anticipated in New Zealand.

Neser’s prospects were bolstered following Lance Morris’s injury during the ODI series against the West Indies and Jhye Richardson’s six-week sideline due to a side strain.

Matt Renshaw, who stepped in to fill the void left by the recently retired David Warner in the squad, maintains his position as the backup batter.

“It’s a positive development to witness Michael Neser’s resurgence in the squad, underpinned by his consistent performances and suitability for the expected conditions,” remarked selection panel chair George Bailey.

“Every Test encounter presents pivotal opportunities to accrue valuable WTC points, and we anticipate a rigorous challenge against a formidable side that has exhibited sustained dominance on home soil for an extended period.”

The two-match Test series, marking Australia’s return to New Zealand for the first time since 2016, commences on February 29.
