AFGHANISTAN v/s SRI LANKA 2024

Afghanistan stages a comeback with an impressive display by the Zadran duo

Ibrahim Zadran’s composed century established the foundation for Afghanistan’s response.

Guided by Naveed Zadran’s impressive four-wicket haul and fueled by Ibrahim Zadran’s century, Afghanistan orchestrated a remarkable comeback against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Despite conceding a substantial 241-run lead in the first innings, Afghanistan ended the day at 199 for 1 at SSC in Colombo, narrowing the deficit to just 42 runs.

On the third day, the hosts, starting at 410 for 6, managed to add only 29 runs to their overnight score.

Naveed Zadran played a pivotal role, dismissing Sadeer Samarawickrama and Prabath Jayasuriya, while Chamika Gunasekara had to leave the field due to discomfort after a blow to the helmet.

Nijat Masood’s pace accounted for Asitha Fernando, bundling out Sri Lanka for 439.

Facing a considerable deficit, Afghanistan’s openers, Ibrahim Zadran and Noor Ali Zadran, exhibited a cautious approach, forging a resilient 106-run partnership.

Ibrahim Zadran showcased moments of aggression, hitting three consecutive boundaries off Kasun Rajitha just before Lunch.

Despite Sri Lanka’s attempts, the duo held firm, with Noor Ali falling after Tea, trapped legbefore by Asitha.

Undeterred, Ibrahim Zadran continued to defy the Sri Lankan attack, forming a solid partnership with Rahmat Shah.

The pair not only withstood the bowlers but also increased the scoring rate.

Despite a dropped catch on 63, Ibrahim Zadran achieved his maiden Test century in the final over before stumps, ensuring Afghanistan’s dominant position in the match.
