Jay Shah is poised to extend his tenure as ACC president.

Jay Shah assumed the leadership of the ACC in January 2021.

Jay Shah is all set to continue as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), with his extension for another year unanimously approved at the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bali on Wednesday. Currently serving as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Shah is in the midst of his second year of his second two-year term as the ACC Chief.

The proposal for Shah’s extension came from Shammi Silva, the president of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), and the nomination received unanimous backing from all ACC members, as stated in a Wednesday press release by the ACC.

Having taken charge of the ACC in January 2021, succeeding Nazmul Hassan, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Shah became the youngest administrator to be re-appointed as the ACC president.

The ACC presidency typically rotates among the full ICC members in the continental body, and Shah has become the first person to secure two consecutive terms. Expressing gratitude after his re-election, Shah emphasized the commitment to ensuring the all-round development of the sport, particularly in regions where it is still in its early stages. He stated, “The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia.”

Cricbuzz reported on the ACC meeting in Bali on January 29 and the potential discussions over the ACC president position. Eventually, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), whose turn was next for the post, proposed the continuation of Shah. Shammi Silva, the chief of SLC, praised Shah’s pivotal role in steering the ACC’s progress in promoting and developing cricket across the Asian region. Silva highlighted Shah’s contributions to unearthing and promoting new talent in cricketing powerhouses like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
