Rilee Rossouw is set to take over the captaincy role from Sarfaraz Ahmed for the Quetta Gladiators.

After eight seasons, Quetta Gladiators are ushering in a new era by replacing the long-serving Sarfaraz Ahmed with Rilee Rossouw as captain ahead of PSL 9.

Saud Shakeel has been appointed vice-captain.

The franchise opted for this change following a series of disappointing seasons.

Despite Rossouw lacking experience in leading a T20 side, he boasts an impressive record as the league’s top-performing overseas batter, accumulating 1867 runs at a striking rate of 146.54.

Rossouw previously contributed to Gladiators’ victory in PSL4 in 2019 and later clinched another championship with the Multan Sultans.

Sarfaraz, aged 36, was appointed captain ahead of the inaugural season of the PSL in 2016.

His leadership was instantly validated as the Gladiators reached the final, though they ultimately lost to Islamabad United.

He was subsequently handed leadership roles within the Pakistan national team, leading them to victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy by defeating India in the final.

Multiple overseas players withdraw from participation.

The ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League has been dealt a significant setback as several players have opted out of the tournament.

South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi won’t be representing Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators will miss the services of Wanindu Hasaranga, one of the top players in T20 cricket globally.

Additionally, players like Shai Hope, Matthew Forde, Akeal Hosein, Rassie van der Dussen, James Vince, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, and Naveen ul Haq have also withdrawn from the competition.

Multan Sultans, already missing local pacer Ihsanullah, suffer another setback as Reece Topley pulls out due to injury.

29TH JANUARY

Shamar secures PSL contract.

West Indies pace sensation Shamar Joseph, who grabbed headlines after bowling his team to a remarkable victory in the Gabba Test, has clinched a PSL deal in the wake of his heroics.

Joseph has been selected as a replacement player for Gus Atkinson and is anticipated to participate throughout the entire tournament.
