Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman teamed up to claim a total of seven wickets.

Bangladesh scored 143 runs in 19.5 overs, where as Zimbabwe scored 138 runs in 19.4 overs.

So, finally Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by five runs.

In their comeback game, Bangladesh’s seasoned campaigners Shakib Al Hasan (4-35) and Mustafizur Rahman (3-19) played pivotal roles as Bangladesh secured a nerve-wracking five-run victory over Zimbabwe in Dhaka on Friday (May 10).

The match was filled with drama right from the outset, with momentum swinging back and forth before the home team emerged triumphant.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh got off to a blazing start courtesy of openers Tanzid Hasan (52 off 37) and Soumya Sarkar (41 off 34).

The duo’s aggressive approach propelled the team to a commanding position, with their partnership yielding 101 runs in just 68 deliveries.

Despite the challenging conditions on the Dhaka surface, the Bangladeshi batsmen capitalized on Zimbabwe’s lackluster bowling display in the initial overs.

However, once the opening partnership was broken, Bangladesh suffered a dramatic collapse, losing all ten wickets for a mere 42 runs to be bundled out for 143 in 19.5 overs.

Luke Jongwe (3-20) and Brian Bennett (2-20) spearheaded Zimbabwe’s fightback, with the other bowlers joining the fray to seize the momentum heading into the innings break.

Although the target of 144 seemed below par, the return of Shakib and Mustafizur proved crucial on the challenging pitch.

In the run chase, Zimbabwe faced early setbacks as Bennett departed for a duck while the promotion of Sikandar Raza to No.3 failed to yield dividends as the captain managed only a 10-ball 17 before getting dismissed.

Despite finding themselves at 57/4, Zimbabwe’s lower middle order, led by Johnathan Campbell (31 off 27), showcased resilience, receiving support from Ryan Burl and Faraz Akram.

However, Bangladesh’s timely breakthroughs prevented Zimbabwe from gaining the upper hand consistently.

Nevertheless, Zimbabwe fought gallantly, with late cameos from Wellington Masakadza (19* off 8) and Blessing Muzarabani (8 off 5) keeping the contest alive till the final over.

Requiring 14 runs off Shakib’s last over, Zimbabwe managed to hit a maximum but fell short as the experienced left-arm spinner held his nerve to guide Bangladesh to a hard-fought victory.
