So, finally Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets.

Ellyse Perry showcased her mastery with both bat and ball, guiding RCB to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday and securing their berth in the WPL 2024 playoffs.

The versatile all-rounder delivered a remarkable bowling performance, claiming a sensational 6 for 15 – a record-breaking feat in the tournament’s history – before showcasing her batting prowess with an unbeaten 40 to steer RCB to victory with five overs to spare.

This commanding win dealt a severe blow to Mumbai Indians’ hopes of topping the table, now relying on Gujarat Giants to beat Delhi Capitals by a substantial margin to keep their aspirations alive.

MI’s Steady Start:

In the absence of Yastika Bhatia, MI altered their opening combination, promoting the aggressive S Sajana alongside Hayley Matthews.

Despite a cautious start, the pair managed to put on 43 runs for the opening wicket before Matthews fell to a brilliant low catch by Perry.

However, Perry’s bowling onslaught turned the tide in RCB’s favor.

Perry’s Demolition Act:

Perry’s devastating spell in the ninth over saw the dismissals of Sajana and Harmanpreet Kaur in successive deliveries, followed by further blows to MI’s lineup.

Her relentless attack left MI reeling at 82 for 7, with Perry finishing with exceptional figures.

Despite a brief resistance from debutant Priyanka Bala, RCB’s spinners chipped in to bundle out MI for 113.

MI’s Early Threat:

Though MI posed an early threat by dismissing Sophie Molineux and Smriti Mandhana, Perry and Richa Ghosh ensured RCB’s steady progress towards the target.

Capitalizing on loose deliveries, Perry and Ghosh orchestrated the chase sensibly, with Perry contributing five boundaries and a six, while Ghosh’s aggressive 36* featured four boundaries and two sixes.

Their partnership efficiently guided RCB to victory, showcasing Perry’s all-round brilliance yet again.
