TATA WPL 2024: Richa Ghosh’s fifty goes unrewarded as DC secures a thrilling victory to secure their playoff berth.

Richa Ghosh hammered a blistering 29-ball 51.

Delhi Capitals scored 181/5 in 20 overs, where as Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 180/7 in 20 overs.

So, finally Delhi Capitals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 1 run.

Richa Ghosh’s 29-ball 51, following a four-wicket haul from Shreyanka Patil, went unrewarded as Delhi Capitals edged out Royal Challengers Bangalore in a nail-biting finish to secure their spot in the playoffs on Sunday (March 10).

Despite Jemimah Rodrigues’ blistering 36-ball 58 and Alice Capsey’s quickfire 48 off 32, propelling Capitals to 181/5, RCB’s Ellyse Perry, Sophie Molineux, and Sophie Devine made valiant efforts in the chase.

However, Ghosh’s brilliant knock, which brought the equation down to 2 off the final ball, couldn’t propel her team over the line, leaving RCB in a precarious position on the points table.

The chase…

Mandhana falls early, Perry takes charge

With Sabbhineni Meghana sidelined and Sophie Devine moving to the middle-order, Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Molineux opened for RCB.

Molineux showed promise with an elegant drive, but Mandhana’s early departure halted their momentum.

Ellyse Perry then took charge, smashing boundaries and guiding RCB to 42/1 by the end of the powerplay.

DC hit back after Perry-Molineux stand

Despite Perry’s dominance, Molineux struggled initially.

Perry kept the required rate in check, but DC struck back, dismissing both Perry and Molineux.

Taniya Bhatia’s missed stumping chance allowed Devine to capitalize, but her efforts weren’t enough.

Ghosh’s heroics in vain

With 28 needed off 12, Ghosh and Wareham kept RCB’s hopes alive, but the latter’s dismissal increased the pressure.

Ghosh’s aggressive batting brought the equation down to 2 off the last ball, but she fell short, leading to Capitals’ thrilling victory.

The first innings…

DC openers tee away

Capitals’ openers started strongly, hitting boundaries in the powerplay.

Despite RCB’s initial tidiness, Meg Lanning’s onslaught shifted the momentum, taking DC to 53.

Rodrigues fifty powers middle overs

After the openers departed, Rodrigues and Capsey continued the assault, with Rodrigues reaching a rapid fifty.

DC maintained their momentum, reaching 130/2 by the 15th over.

Patil’s four help in damage control, to an extent

Despite Patil’s impactful spell, Capitals continued to score briskly, thanks to Capsey’s aggression.

Patil managed to pick crucial wickets but couldn’t prevent Capitals from posting a formidable total of 180-plus.
