Yash Thakur celebrates after taking a wicket during the IPL match against Gujarat Titans.

TATA IPL 2024: Yash Thakur seizes his opportunity eagerly and grasping it firmly with both hands.

The 25-year-old achieved his first-ever five-wicket haul in the IPL.

This IPL season has largely revolved around Mayank Yadav hogging the headlines with his fiery speeds and menacing hard lengths.

However, in the game against Gujarat Titans, he was unexpectedly brought on in the powerplay and ended up conceding a few boundaries while barely bowling over 140 clicks.

Exiting the field with a side strain, he managed only one over.

With Yadav sidelined, the spotlight shifted to a new hero, Yash Thakur, who wasted little time in seizing the opportunity.

The 25-year-old registered his maiden five-wicket haul in the IPL, dismantling the Titans batting line-up.

Though Thakur may not match Yadav’s pace, his ability to vary lengths and pace is impressive.

While Yadav is the enforcer, Thakur embraces his role as a support bowler without reservation.

“At the post-match press conference, Thakur revealed, “Once Mayank went off, Rahul sir told me that this could be my day and that I could win the game for the side.

He advised me to back myself and focus on what I can control.”

Since their debut in the 2022 season, Lucknow Super Giants have gained a reputation for defending totals, even when they are not very high, as was evident in this fixture.

Posting 163, which seemed insufficient, they fought back when Thakur dismissed Shubman Gill, triggering a collapse from which the Titans could not recover.

Thakur admitted, “We felt that the pitch was slower, and our plan was to persist with variations despite conceding runs.”

His season started roughly with an expensive spell against Rajasthan Royals but has since gained momentum, culminating in an exceptional performance against the Titans.

Lucknow Super Giants boast a talented pool of domestic pacers, including Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, and Thakur.

Aware of the competition for a spot in the playing XI, Thakur remains unfazed, prioritizing the team’s success over personal achievements.

“The captain and coach know the best combination for the team.

It doesn’t matter if I’m playing or not; the team’s victory is paramount,” Thakur stated.

“I embrace the responsibility of winning games for the team and enjoy the pressure of expectations.”
