TATA IPL 2024: Tim David and Kieron Pollard are penalized for seeking DRS assistance from the dugout

Mumbai Indians were found to be in violation for providing DRS assistance from the dugout.

Sanctions were imposed on Tim David and Kieron Pollard for their involvement in providing DRS assistance from the dugout, a rare occurrence in Indian cricket.

The incident occurred during the Punjab Kings-Mumbai Indians game at Mullanpur on April 18, where the two Mumbai Indians players breached the IPL Playing Conditions by signaling to the batsman on the field.

As per the IPL’s Code of Conduct, both David and Pollard were fined 20 percent of their match fees for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20.

They admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction, as per the BCCI statement.

The decision was made following a review of television footage by umpires Nand Kishore, Vineet Kulkarni, Nitin Menon (third umpire), and match referee Sanjay Verma.

The sanctions were based on the relevant clause in Appendix D of the Playing Conditions, which prohibits any signals from the dressing room to the players on the field.

However, batsman Surya Kumar Yadav, who reviewed an Arshdeep Singh delivery off the last ball of the 15th over, was not found guilty of acting on signals from the dugout.

The incident raised concerns as the on-field umpires had to confirm if the 15-second time limit for reviews had elapsed, prompting rival captain Sam Curran to seek clarification.

Despite the uncertainty, the umpires were confident that Surya Kumar Yadav did not act on the signals from the dugout, allowing the review to proceed.

The delivery in question was difficult for the batsman to connect with, and despite the marginal call going in favor of Mumbai Indians, Surya Kumar Yadav could not make contact.
