TATA IPL 2024: Shami has undergone surgery for his Achilles tendon and is now set to miss IPL 2024

Mohammed Shami has been absent from competitive cricket since the conclusion of the 2023 50-over World Cup.

Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined from competitive cricket since the World Cup in November, underwent surgery in London on Monday to address his Achilles tendon, which has been troubling him since the tournament.

Shami mentioned that the recovery process will require some time but expressed optimism about returning to the field soon.

He shared this update along with a picture of himself on social media.

“Looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami wrote in his social media post.

Shami’s last competitive appearance was in the World Cup final held in Ahmedabad on November 19.

Since then, he has been absent from the full-fledged tour of South Africa, the home T20I series against Afghanistan, and the ongoing five-Test series against England.

It has been confirmed that he will miss the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Additionally, his participation in the Twenty20 World Cup in June remains uncertain.

Before opting for surgery, Shami consulted experts in London after the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru recommended the procedure.

Meanwhile, the Indian team, following their victory over England in Ranchi on Monday, has been granted a four-day break.

They will disperse from Ranchi on Tuesday and regroup in Dharamsala, the venue for the fifth and final Test, on March 3.

The Test match is set to commence on March 7.

With a commanding 3-1 lead in the five-Test series, India stands in a formidable position.
