TATA IPL 2024: Patidar and Green as well as Karn has helped RCB to secure a victory against SRH

RCB secured their second win of the season.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 206/7 in 20 overs, where as Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 171/8 in 20 overs.

So, finally Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs.

In Hyderabad, IPL 2024’s under performing team, RCB, put an end to their six-game losing streak by defeating the high-flying SRH, securing their second win of the season.

Exactly a month after their previous victory, RCB imposed a formidable challenge on their hosts, setting a strong target of 206 on a two-paced track.

This imposing total was primarily propelled by blistering innings from Rajat Patidar (50 off 20) and Cameron Green (37* off 20), followed by an exemplary performance by their spinners, who clinched four crucial wickets, leading to a convincing 35-run victory.

The turning point of the match came in the unfamiliar Power Play territory, where RCB achieved a milestone for the season by taking four wickets in the opening six overs.

It marked the first time SRH lost as many wickets in the Power Play phase.

Despite SRH managing to score one more run in the Power Play, the dismissals of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen proved to be the game-changer, ultimately tilting the match in favor of RCB.

Power Play: A battle of momentum shifts

RCB 61/1 [RR: 10.16, 4s/6s: 7/2]

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis set off aggressively, reaching 43/0 in just 3 overs after RCB won the toss.

However, the first ball of the fourth over, delivered by T. Natarajan, saw Kohli flicking for a boundary.

The subsequent 11 balls of the Power Play yielded merely 4 runs as Natarajan dismissed du Plessis (25 off 12) with a well-executed slower short-ball.

Shahbaz Ahmed’s tight first over only conceded two runs.

Kohli managed to strike a six off Natarajan, who became the sole SRH bowler to bowl a second Power Play over, leaving the visitors at 61/1 after six overs.

Middle Overs: Kohli’s cautious approach, Patidar’s fireworks, and Unadkat’s impact

RCB 81/3 [RR: 9.00, 4s/6s: 2/5]

Kohli, starting the post-Power Play phase on 32 off 18, eventually departed for a 43-ball 51, scoring just 19 runs from his last 25 balls at a strike-rate of 76, failing to find boundaries against the spread-out field.

He contributed a run-a-ball 14 in a 65-run partnership off 34 balls.

Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar scored a quick-fire half-century in 19 balls, smashing four of his five sixes consecutively in the 11th over bowled by Mayank Markande.

Despite the challenging pitch conditions favoring the bowlers, SRH managed to restrain RCB from hitting boundaries in overs 12-15.

Jaydev Unadkat, playing his 100th IPL game, made significant breakthroughs by dismissing Patidar, Kohli, and Mahipal Lomror.

Death Overs: Green shines amidst slower deliveries

RCB 64/3 [RR: 12.8, 4s/6s: 9/1]

Cameron Green proved to be RCB’s most effective batsman against slower deliveries, hitting four of his five boundaries off compatriot Pat Cummins, who conceded 55 runs in his four overs.

Although SRH’s captain, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, bowled only one over, Shahbaz’s three overs for 14 runs compensated excellently.

SRH managed to restrict RCB to 64/3 in the death overs, with Green claiming a second wicket by dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while SRH’s ninth-wicket pair reduced the final margin of defeat to 35 runs.

PowerPlay: A rare top-order collapse for SRH

SRH 62/4 [RR: 10.33, 4s/6s: 4/4]

Will Jacks, who opened the bowling, reaped rewards with the dismissal of Travis Head on the final ball of the first over.

Despite a costly second over, Yash Dayal’s break through with the wicket of Abhishek Sharma tilted the game in RCB’s favor.

Swapnil Singh accounted for the Protea duo of Markram and Klaasen, leaving SRH struggling at 62/4 after six overs.

Middle Overs: Karn Sharma’s spin adds to SRH’s woes

SRH 70/3 [RR: 7.77, 4s/6s: 3/4]

Karn Sharma capitalized on the spin-friendly conditions, picking up crucial wickets in his first two overs, reducing SRH to 85/6.

His dismissals of Nitish Reddy and Abdul Samad dented SRH’s batting lineup.

Pat Cummins briefly revived SRH’s hopes with a couple of sixes, but he eventually fell to Green.

Karn concluded his spell with impressive figures of 2 for 29.

Death Overs: SRH’s futile efforts in the closing stages

SRH 39/1 [RR: 7.8, 4s/6s: 3/1]

With the game beyond SRH’s reach, the final overs witnessed a lackluster finish.

Although Green claimed a second wicket by dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar, SRH’s ninth-wicket pair managed to reduce the margin of defeat to 35 runs.
