Phil Salt concluded with an unbeaten 89 not out

Lucknow Super Giants scored 161/7 in 20 overs, where as Kolkata Knight Riders scored 162/2 in 15.4 overs.

So, finally Kolkata Knight Riders beat Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets.

Mitchell Starc finally found his rhythm, spearheading a clinical bowling performance for KKR at Eden Gardens on Sunday (April 14).

This was followed by an enterprising innings from Phil Salt as Kolkata Knight Riders secured their first win against Lucknow Super Giants.

Starc’s figures of 3 for 28 restricted LSG to 161/7 before Salt’s unbeaten 89 off 47 balls, coupled with an unbroken 120-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer, led KKR to victory with 4.2 overs to spare.

KKR’s positive outlook despite early setbacks:

The IPL debut for Shamar Joseph didn’t start well as he conceded 22 runs in his first over, the most expensive opening over of IPL 2024.

Despite some initial pressure, Salt and Sunil Narine managed to capitalize, with Narine being dismissed by Mohsin Khan, who also took the wicket of Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

However, KKR maintained their lead as the team with the best powerplay scoring rates, largely due to Salt’s consistent boundary hitting.

Salt’s fifty keeps KKR on track:

Despite some challenges, including a dropped catch and a reversed decision thanks to DRS, Salt continued to dominate the innings, reaching his fifty off just 26 balls, ensuring KKR surpassed the 100-run mark by the 10th over.

Salt’s blazing knock seals the deal:

After initially taking his time to settle, Shreyas picked up the pace with two boundaries off Joseph’s bowling.

Salt then accelerated the chase, finishing the game swiftly with a flurry of boundaries off various bowlers, including Thakur, Mohsin, and Ravi Bishnoi.

First innings highlights:

LSG’s promising start corroded by key wickets:

Despite a promising start with Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul scoring well in the powerplay, LSG struggled to maintain momentum.

Starc and Vaibhav Arora picked up crucial wickets, including de Kock and Deepak Hooda, disrupting LSG’s rhythm.

Key wickets dent LSG’s progress:

Rahul’s dismissal by Andre Russell slowed down LSG’s momentum further.

Although Marcus Stoinis and Ayush Badoni tried to steady the innings, they were eventually dismissed by Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine respectively, leaving LSG at 113/5 after 15 overs.

KKR restrict LSG despite Pooran’s efforts:

Nicholas Pooran provided some late fireworks with a brisk 45, but KKR’s bowlers, particularly Varun and Starc, contained the damage effectively, restricting LSG to a manageable total of 161/7.
