This victory bolstered their position in second place on the points table, putting them two points ahead of the third-placed Chennai Super Kings.

The pivotal factor lay in the middle overs.

Delhi Capitals:

Powerplay: A flurry of runs and wickets

DC: 67/3 (RR: 11.17, 4s/6s: 7/4)

Prithvi Shaw ignited the visitors’ innings with a flurry of boundaries in the opening over, but Kolkata Knight Riders quickly retaliated with a string of dismissals.

Shaw fell to an edge down the leg side, Jake Fraser-McGurk was caught at deep square leg, and Shai Hope’s stumps were shattered by Vaibhav Arora.

Despite brisk contributions from Fraser-McGurk and Porel, DC faced setbacks.

Middle overs: Varun Chakravarthy’s triple strike rattles DC

DC: 45/5 (RR: 5.00, 4s/6s: 5/0)

KKR’s relentless wicket-taking continued, with Harshit Rana striking immediately after the powerplay.

Although Rishabh Pant attempted to stabilize DC’s innings, his aggressive intent backfired.

Pant and Tristan Stubbs fell victim to Chakravarthy, while Sunil Narine ended Axar Patel’s struggle.

DC’s decision to introduce Impact Substitute Kumar Kushagra in the 13th over failed to yield dividends, as he also fell to Chakravarthy.

The frequent fall of wickets put DC on the back foot.

Death overs: Kuldeep Yadav’s defiant stand

DC: 41/1 (RR: 8.20, 4s/6s: 4/1)

Batting at No. 9, Kuldeep Yadav showed resilience, forging a 29-run partnership in 24 balls with Rasikh Salakm for the ninth wicket.

Kuldeep even dispatched Mitchell Starc for a six.

While other bowlers thrived, Starc’s struggles persisted in the ongoing IPL.

Kuldeep capitalized on loose deliveries, adding valuable runs to DC’s total and ensuring a competitive score.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

Powerplay: Salt’s onslaught

KKR: 79/0 (RR: 13.17, 4s/6s: 10/4)

Phil Salt wasted no time in launching a blistering attack on the bowlers, plundering Lizaad Williams for 23 runs – the most expensive opening over this season.

A no-ball and a dropped catch further aided Salt’s onslaught.

Salt’s aggressive approach, coupled with Narine’s stability, propelled KKR to a rapid start.

Salt completed his fifty in just 23 deliveries with a six off Khaleel Ahmed in the last over of the powerplay.

Middle overs: DC strike back but fail to halt momentum

KKR: 62/3 (RR: 6.88, 4s/6s: 6/1)

DC found success in the middle overs after introducing their spin duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.

Axar dismissed Narine and Salt, while Kuldeep accounted for Rinku Singh’s dismissal.

Despite these breakthroughs, Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer steered KKR’s chase steadily.

Death overs: Smooth sailing to victory

KKR: 62/3 (RR: 6.88, 4s/6s: 6/1)

With just 13 runs required to win, Shreyas and Venkatesh cruised to victory, completing the task in nine balls.

Venkatesh sealed the win with a six off Salam’s delivery, wrapping up KKR’s dominant performance.
