TATA IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals has humbled Gujarat Titans in a low-scoring match.

DC pacers set the tone as GT collapsed for a mere 89 runs.

Gujarat Titans scored 89 in 17.3 overs, where as Delhi Capitals scored 92/4 in 8.5 overs.

So, finally Delhi Capitals beat Gujarat Titans by 6 wickets.

Delhi Capitals delivered a commanding performance with the ball, restricting Gujarat Titans to a meager 89 runs before effortlessly chasing down the target.

This marked Gujarat’s third loss in their last four matches.

DC’s vice-like grip on Gujarat

Gujarat Titans found themselves ensnared in Delhi Capitals’ relentless bowling onslaught from the moment they were put in to bat.

The pacers set the stage early on, with Ishant Sharma dismissing Shubman Gill with a chip to cover and Mukesh Kumar clean bowling Wriddhiman Saha.

The breakthroughs came regularly, stifling any attempts at building partnerships, with the highest stand of the innings reaching a mere 18 runs.

Sai Sudharsan’s run-out and a double-wicket over by Tristan Stubbs added to DC’s dominant display on a challenging pitch.

Rishabh Pant excels behind the stumps

Backing up the bowlers’ precision was Rishabh Pant’s exceptional wicket-keeping.

His performance began with a spectacular diving catch off Ishant to dismiss David Miller, followed by swift stumpings of Abhinav Manohar and Shahrukh Khan.

Pant’s four dismissals equaled the record for the most by a Delhi franchise wicketkeeper in the IPL.

Could Gujarat’s batsmen turn the tide?

Unfortunately for Gujarat, no batsman managed to withstand the onslaught long enough to make a significant impact.

Rashid Khan was the lone exception from the lower order, scoring 31 runs, the highest of the innings.

With wickets tumbling incessantly, Gujarat were bundled out for their lowest total at their home ground.

This marked the first instance of a team failing to reach 100 runs since the introduction of the Impact Sub.

How did the chase unfold?

The chase was largely smooth and swift.

With their net run rate needing a significant boost following previous heavy defeats in the tournament, DC seized the opportunity to make amends.

Jake Fraser-McGurk provided the initial impetus with a rapid 20 off 10 balls.

However, the aggressive approach came with risks, leading to Spencer Johnson dismissing Fraser-McGurk.

Despite losing a few wickets, including Prithvi Shaw and Abhishek Porel to Sandeep Warrier, DC comfortably reached the target in under 9 overs, securing a comprehensive victory.

The win significantly improved their net run rate from -0.975 to -0.074, propelling them to sixth place on the points table.

What’s up next?

Delhi Capitals will finally grace their home turf for the first time this season as they square off against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 20th.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans hit the road to Chandigarh for a face-off against Punjab Kings on April 21st.
