Delhi Capitals

Powering through the Power Play, Porel and Hope showed their mettle, propelling the score to 73/1 [RR: 12.16, 4s/6s: 6/5].

KL Rahul’s strategic placement at long-on led to Jake Fraser-McGurk’s dismissal for a duck in the first over.

Abishek Porel unleashed three boundaries off Mohsin Khan in the second over, setting the momentum.

Arshad Khan bore the brunt of Porel’s onslaught, conceding three fours and a six in a 21-run over.

Shai Hope joined the onslaught, matching Porel shot for shot with two fours and a six off Yudhvir Singh, as DC raced to 50 in just 4 overs.

Porel’s dominance persisted as he accounted for four of the five sixes DC notched up in this phase.

In the middle-overs, Ravi Bishnoi emerged as the chief architect of restraint, stifling DC’s momentum as they reached 63/2 [RR: 7.00, 4s/6s: 8/1].

Despite Abishek Porel’s rapid fifty off 21 balls, Bishnoi’s controlled spell (1 for 26) tilted the phase in favor of the bowling side.

Employing his variations adeptly, including his trademark googly, the leg-spinner managed to peg back DC’s scoring rate.

Bishnoi’s pivotal wicket of Shai Hope halted DC’s blossoming second-wicket partnership.

Following an expensive first over, KL Rahul reintroduced Naveen, who promptly struck to dismiss Porel for a dynamic 58 off 33 deliveries, embellished with 5 fours and 4 sixes.

While Rishabh Pant managed to find the boundary twice off Krunal, Mohsin Khan’s tight five-run over further constrained DC’s scoring opportunities.

During the death overs, Tristan Stubbs emerged as the catalyst, propelling DC beyond the formidable 200-run mark as they reached 72/1 [RR: 14.40 4s/6: 6/4].

Starting cautiously on 7 (9), Stubbs unleashed a blistering assault, culminating in an unbeaten 57 (25).

He kickstarted the onslaught by dispatching an Arshad Khan delivery for a boundary and concluded the over with two consecutive fours.

Although Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed the DC skipper in the 17th over, Stubbs continued his onslaught, forging a crucial 50-run partnership with Axar Patel, who chipped in with 10 runs.

Even Mohsin Khan, who bowled three economical overs, couldn’t escape Stubbs’ aggression, as he was smashed for a six and a four.

Naveen bore the brunt of Stubbs’ assault, conceding two sixes and a four in his final over, ending with an expensive spell of 2 for 51.

Stubbs now boasts the highest run tally in the death overs this IPL (252 runs at a staggering strike rate of 262.5).

Lucknow Super Giants

In the Power Play, LSG encountered early setbacks, losing four wickets as they reached 59/4 [RR: 9.84, 4s/6s: 7/3].

KL Rahul’s mistimed shot off Ishant Sharma in the first over initiated their troubles, with Ishant exploiting swing effectively.

Soon after, Quinton de Kock’s struggle ended with Ishant deceiving him with a slower delivery, resulting in a catch at mid-on.

Marcus Stoinis attempted to assert dominance against spin by charging Axar Patel on the first ball he faced, only to be stumped.

Nicholas Pooran entered the fray and capitalized on the favorable matchup against left-arm spinners, smashing two sixes and two fours off the same over.

Despite Pooran’s assault, Ishant continued to wreak havoc by dismissing Deepak Hooda in the following over, further denting LSG’s pursuit of a tall target.

In the middle overs, DC faltered, losing wickets and their momentum, tallying 76/3 [RR: 8.45; 4s/6s: 8/4].

Nicholas Pooran kickstarted the phase by executing a switch-hit for a six off Kuldeep Yadav, reaching his 50 off just 20 balls in the ninth over, even as Ayush Badoni departed just before.

Pooran’s duel with DC extended beyond the halfway mark until Axar Patel’s stunning one-handed catch at cover off Mukesh Kumar ended his brilliant knock at 61 off just 27 balls (6×4,4×6).

Arshad Khan and Krunal Pandya showcased some resistance, adding 23 runs in the subsequent two overs to emphasize that the chase wasn’t over with Pooran’s dismissal.

However, DC struck back by picking up crucial wickets.

In Kuldeep’s final over, Axar was stumped, leaving the lower order to chase 74 off 30 deliveries.

Moving to the death overs, Arshad Khan’s valiant effort, scoring 58 off 33 balls, proved futile as LSG fell short due to a lack of batting depth.

Yudhvir Singh managed a six and a four off Rasikh Salam but perished at the end of the subsequent over from Khaleel, during which Arshad unleashed two sixes and a four.

With LSG eight down, the equation seemed achievable at 42 off 18 balls.

Arshad continued his assault against Salam, reducing the target to 29 off 12 deliveries.

However, Mukesh Kumar delivered a fine penultimate over, accounting for the run-out of Ravi Bishnoi and conceding only six runs.

Despite Arshad’s determined efforts, requiring 23 off the last six balls, Salam held firm, denying any further scoring opportunities to secure victory for LSG.
