TATA IPL 2024: Ravindra Jadeja has played an important role for CSK to secure a victory against PBKS

Ravindra Jadeja made a 26-ball 43 with the bat and secured figures of 3 for 20 with the ball.

Chennai Super Kings scored 167/9 in 20 overs, where as Punjab Kings scored 139/9 in 20 overs.

So, finally Chennai Super Kings beat Punjab Kings by 28 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja’s stellar all-round performance propelled Chennai Super Kings to a 28-run victory over Punjab Kings in Dharamshala, abruptly halting the hosts’ five-match winning streak against them.

His crucial contribution included a timely acceleration during the death overs, scoring a blistering 26-ball 43, which lifted CSK to a competitive total of 167/9.

Subsequently, Jadeja showcased his bowling prowess by claiming figures of 3-20, wreaking havoc on Punjab Kings’ batting lineup as they spectacularly imploded in the middle overs.

The turning point of the match was undoubtedly the middle overs, where CSK initially struggled, managing only 57/4 between overs 7 to 15.

However, it was Punjab Kings who completely lost their way during this phase.

Jadeja’s impactful three-wicket haul triggered a collapse of 5 for 16, dismissing both set batters – Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh – which prevented any chance of a late recovery, a feat Punjab had previously managed twice this season.

Powerplay: Gaikwad and Mitchell lay the foundation

CSK: 60/1 (RR: 10, 6x4s, 2x6s)

In the initial phase, after Ruturaj Gaikwad lost yet another toss and CSK was put in to bat, Ajinkya Rahane fell early.

However, Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell combined effectively to construct a 57-run partnership.

Mitchell, batting at one-down, ignited the innings by hitting Arshdeep Singh for a boundary and a six.

Gaikwad joined the onslaught in the final over of the power play, dismantling Harpreet Brar’s bowling attack.

The CSK skipper and Mitchell plundered 19 runs off Brar’s over, forcing him out of the bowling attack for the rest of the match.

Middle: Chahar, Harshal dismantle CSK’s middle-order

CSK: 57/4 (RR: 6.33, 7x4s)

Unlike Brar, Chahar continued his impressive form and made immediate inroads into CSK’s batting line-up.

He dismissed both Gaikwad and Shivam Dube in successive deliveries, leaving CSK reeling.

Harshal Patel joined the wicket-taking spree and dismissed Mitchell after a brisk cameo.

Despite some resistance from Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali, Sam Curran struck to remove Moeen with a well-executed variation.

Death: Jadeja’s heroics guide CSK to a competitive total

CSK: 50/4 (RR 7.14, 3x4s, 3x6s)

Chahar struck again in the death overs, but CSK sent Shardul Thakur ahead of MS Dhoni.

Thakur’s cameo, supported by some big hits, added crucial runs.

However, an excellent 19th over from Harshal Patel halted CSK’s momentum.

Despite a valiant effort from Jadeja in the final over, scoring crucial runs, CSK managed to reach a respectable total of 167/9.

Punjab Kings

Powerplay: Prabhsimran-Shashank lead the counter-attack

PBKS: 47/2 (RR: 7.83, 5x4s, 2x6s)

After a tight first over from Mitchell Santner, Tushar Deshpande struck early, dismissing both Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossow.

However, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh rebuilt the innings, taking on the CSK bowlers.

Together, they countered Richard Gleeson to score 16 runs in the third over, providing stability to the PBKS innings.

Middle: A dramatic collapse cripples PBKS

PBKS:44/6 (RR: 4.88, 3x4s,1×6)

Santner returned and managed to break the partnership by dismissing Shashank Singh.

Jadeja then removed Prabhsimran Singh, triggering a collapse.

Jitesh Sharma, Ashutosh Sharma, and the stand-in captain fell quickly, leaving PBKS in disarray.

Harshal Patel briefly revived hopes with some aggressive hitting, but it wasn’t enough to rescue PBKS from the collapse.

Death: PBKS bow out meekly

PBKS:48/1, RR: (9.6, 4x4s, 2x6s)

Chahar provided some resistance with a few boundaries towards the end, but it was too late to change the outcome.

Punjab Kings’ dismal performance continued, marking their fifth consecutive loss in their ‘home’ games.

Despite some late fireworks from Richard Gleeson and Kagiso Rabada, PBKS succumbed to another defeat.
