T20 World Cup 2024 : Wanindu Hasaranga will lead to Sri Lanka team at the T20 World Cup.

Wanindu Hasaranga is preparing for his debut T20 World Cup as the captain.

Dushmantha Chameera, Pathum Nissanka, Dhananjaya De Silva, and Dunith Wellalage have made it into Sri Lanka’s 15-player squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, as announced by Sri Lanka Cricket on Thursday.

Avishka Fernando, Niroshan Dickwella, Binura Fernando, and Jeffrey Vandersay have been omitted from the squad that faced Bangladesh in March.

Chameera will spearhead the pace attack, complemented by promising youngsters Nuwan Thusara, Matheesha Patirana, and Dilshan Madhushanka.

Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka will also bolster the pace department.

Leading the spin contingent will be Hasaranga, supported by Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana.

Additionally, the squad will benefit from the part-time options of Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva.

Wanindu Hasaranga, the all-rounder, will captain the squad, with Charith Asalanka serving as his deputy.

Sri Lanka’s campaign commences on June 3 against South Africa at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Subsequent matches include clashes against Bangladesh in Dallas on June 7, Nepal in Florida on June 11, and Netherlands in St Lucia on June 16.

Travelling reserves include Asitha Fernando, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Janith Liyanage.
