Power Play: Gous, Nitish Eye Swift Recovery After Taylor’s Exit

Phase score – 48/1 [RR: 8.00, 4s/6s: 5/1]

USA had a shaky start after Akeal Hosein restricted them to just three singles in the first over, followed by Andre Russell’s breakthrough in the second over, getting Steven Taylor caught at backward point.

Nitish Kumar counter-attacked against Obed McCoy, hitting a boundary over cover and another to mid-wicket in a 12-run fourth over.

Rovman Powell immediately brought in Alzarri Joseph, who conceded 16 runs in the final over of the powerplay.

Andries Gous surpassed the 200-run mark in the T20 World Cup 2024, temporarily leading the tournament’s batting charts.

He also survived a scare when a thick edge flew past the short third fielder.

Middle-Overs: Chase’s Three-Fer Rattles USA

Phase score – 47/5 [RR: 5.23, 4s/6s: 1/1]

Gudakesh Motie dented USA’s recovery by trapping Nitish leg before on the second ball after the powerplay.

Captain Aaron Jones briefly shined, hitting a six off Joseph, who then dismissed Gous, caught at midwicket.

Roston Chase’s arrival further troubled USA; he removed Jones on his first delivery, reducing them to 65/4 in the 10th over.

Milind Kumar and Corey Anderson tried to rebuild, but Chase ended their partnership with a double-wicket over, trapping Anderson leg before and having Harmeet Singh caught at backward point.

Death-Overs: Russell Bags Three as USA Fold

Phase score – 32/5 [RR: 6.40, 4s/6s: 4/1]

USA’s innings continued to decline, folding for 128 in the final over.

Their 32 runs at the death included a 15-run over off Russell.

Milind and Shadley van Schalkwyk pushed USA past 100 in the 16th over before both were dismissed in the 18th.

Ali Khan briefly sparked with a six and a four but remained unbeaten on 14* off 6 as USA lost their last two wickets at the other end.

Russell finished with three wickets, tying Dwayne Bravo’s record for the most T20 World Cup wickets for West Indies with 27.

Power Play: Flying Start for Hosts in Small Chase

Phase score – 58/0 [RR: 9.67, 4s/6s: 6/3]

Saurabh Netravalkar bowled a tight first over, but Shai Hope began the onslaught by hitting Nosthush Kenjige for a six over deep midwicket.

Hope, who smashed eight sixes in his unbeaten 39-ball innings, targeted Netravalkar, Ali Khan, and Schalkwyk.

Johnson Charles contributed with occasional boundaries, while Hope raced to 42 off 23 by the end of the powerplay, leaving USA struggling for a breakthrough.

Middle-Overs: Hope, Pooran Carnage Hastens WI’s Win

Phase score – 72/1 [RR: 14.89, 4s/6s: 1/8]

Hope quickly reached his fifty and continued scoring quickly even after Harmeet Singh dismissed Charles.

Nicholas Pooran joined with aggressive intent, and Hope escalated his assault, hitting three successive sixes off Milind in a 22-run over.

Pooran then took over, hitting Schalkwyk for 13 runs to push West Indies past 100.

The chase ended swiftly with three sixes in the 11th over from Netravalkar—two from Pooran and the final one fittingly from Hope.
