Amidst growing noise and unhappiness surrounding Bangladesh’s underwhelming lead-up to the T20 World Cup, the team is now focusing on a crucial challenge ahead of their encounter against Sri Lanka.

Matheesha Pathirana, the Sri Lankan slinger who has proven difficult for various batters around the world, has received special attention in Bangladesh’s training sessions.

The decision to introduce a side-arm throw-down specialist in the nets ahead of their first game underscores this focus.

“That’s part of the preparation as we are trying to be as specific as possible, replicating the bowlers we will be facing.

That’s one of the reasons for the side-arm throw-down,” a team management member told Cricpulse on Thursday.

“Even in Bangladesh, in Chittagong, there was a net bowler with a similar action.

During the Zimbabwe series, we tried to get him to bowl to us as much as possible,” he said.

The form of Bangladesh’s top order—Litton Kumar Das, Soumya Sarkar, and captain Nazmul Hossain—is a huge concern.

Their struggles led to losing their maiden T20I series against the USA by a 2-1 margin.

Additionally, Bangladesh hardly managed to put up a fight against India in their lone warm-up game in New York.

Shakib Al Hasan has resorted to an open-chested batting stance, largely due to an eye problem that troubled him in the last World Cup.

The left-handed batter even experimented with his batting stance and backlift in a recent net session at the indoor facility in Dallas.

“Look, he is an experienced player and knows his game well.

He understands what works for him, and he’s focused on what he is trying to achieve.

As a coach, you have to trust the player.

Our discussions focus on ensuring the player feels confident when he goes out in the middle.

He is working through that and is happy with where his game is at the moment,” said a member of the Bangladesh coaching panel.
