South African cricket team celebrating their qualification for the Super 8 stages of the T20 World Cup 2024.

T20 World Cup 2024 : South Africa team has qualified for the Super 8 after Sri Lanka-Nepal washout

Not a single ball was bowled.

South Africa has become the first team to officially qualify for the Super 8 stages of the 2024 T20 World Cup following the washout between Sri Lanka and Nepal.

The result has also significantly diminished Sri Lanka’s chances of progressing, putting them on the brink of elimination.

Weather was expected to play spoilsport at Lauderhill in Florida ahead of the game, and eventually, not a single delivery was bowled due to incessant rain.

South Africa, topping the group with two wins in two games, have now advanced.

Sri Lanka’s chances were already slim heading into this game after their loss against Bangladesh.

With two losses in two games, Sri Lanka needed to win their remaining matches and rely on other results.

The washout leaves them with just one point from three games.

Their final group game is scheduled against the Netherlands on June 16.
