Sri Lanka scored 201/6 in 20 overs, where as Netherlands scored 118/10 in 16.4 overs.

So, finally Sri Lanka beat Netherlands by 83 runs.

Sri Lanka dominated in all three departments against the Netherlands, securing an 83-run victory in their final game of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Despite an early wicket, key contributions from Sri Lanka’s top and middle order helped them post 201-6 on an excellent batting pitch.

The Netherlands, needing a win and another result to make it to the Super 8s, started their chase with intent but faltered against Sri Lanka’s quality bowling.

With news of Bangladesh’s victory over Nepal affecting their morale, the Netherlands were bowled out for 118.

Powerplay: Netherlands Keep it Tidy

Phase Score: 45-2 (RR: 7.50; 4×4, 1×6)

Vivian Kingma dismissed Pathum Nissanka early, with Engelbrecht taking a catch at deep backward point.

The Netherlands’ opening bowlers kept the scoring tight with consistent lines and lengths.

However, Kusal and Kamindu Mendis managed to break free in the fifth over, hitting Kingma for boundaries.

Kamindu hit a six off Paul van Meekeren in the sixth over but was later dismissed, leaving Sri Lanka at 45-2.

Middle Overs: Dhananjaya and Kusal Set Up the Platform for a Big Finish

Phase Score: 79-2 (RR: 8.56; 6×4, 2×6)

Sri Lanka focused on rotating the strike and running well between the wickets as boundaries dried up.

An expensive ninth over by Tim Pringle and a brisk partnership between Dhananjaya and Kusal helped set a strong platform.

Dhananjaya continued to attack, taking on Van Meekeren for 18 runs in the 13th over before getting dismissed by Pringle.

Death Overs: Asalanka, Mathews, and Hasaranga Deal in Sixes

Phase Score: 77-2 (RR: 15.4; 2×4, 8×6)

Mathews was dropped and Asalanka survived an lbw scare, both capitalizing on these chances.

Erratic Dutch bowling allowed Sri Lanka to score freely, with Pringle conceding 19 runs in his final over.

Asalanka hit two sixes off Logan van Beek, who took two wickets in an eventful 18th over.

Hasaranga then hit a boundary and two sixes off van Beek, pushing the score past 200.

Powerplay: Levitt and O’Dowd Go Big but Sri Lanka Pulls Things Back

Phase Score: 47-2 (RR: 7.83; 2×4, 4×6)

Levitt and O’Dowd started well, scoring 39 runs in three overs, with Theekshana conceding 13 in his first.

Thushara then dismissed O’Dowd, and Theekshana tied down Vikramjeet Singh, leading to Levitt’s dismissal.

Middle Overs: The Bowlers Break the Back of the Chase

Phase Score: 55-6 (RR: 6.11; 2×4, 1×6)

Sri Lankan bowlers continued their dominance post powerplay.

Vikramjeet was caught trying to pull Shanaka, Engelbrecht hit a six off Hasaranga but was dismissed by Pathirana.

Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek fell in quick succession, and Pathirana uprooted Aryan Dutt’s off stump.

The Dutch struggled against stump-to-stump bowling and Pathirana’s slingy action.

Death Overs: Netherlands Fall Well Short

Phase Score: 16-2 (RR: 9.58; 1×4, 1×6)

With 100 runs needed off the last five overs, Edwards hit Theekshana for a six and Thushara for a four before being deceived into an early pull.

Thushara then trapped van Meekeren lbw, securing a comfortable victory for Sri Lanka.
