Shubman Gill, currently serving as a traveling reserve with the Indian team, is set to return home after the conclusion of the US leg of the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup matches.

Another reserve pacer, likely Avesh Khan, may also depart after the game against Canada in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on June 15.

Both players are currently in Florida, having flown with the team from New York to Fort Lauderdale via a chartered flight on Wednesday.

The charter was arranged for both the India and USA teams following their match at Nassau County International Stadium in Long Island on Wednesday afternoon.

It’s understood that Gill and Avesh’s travels were solely for the US leg, unless unexpected injuries occur.

They accompanied the team as traveling reserves because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may find it challenging to send reinforcements from India to the US or the Caribbean promptly in case of unforeseen player injuries.

While there’s a possibility that the pair may be asked to stay on standby during scheduled practice on June 14 or the game the next day, the chances are slim due to the prevailing inclement weather in Florida potentially disrupting the World Cup schedule.

Additionally, with Yashasvi Jaiswal serving as a third opener in the squad and the team expected to rely more on spinners in the Caribbean leg, there may not be an immediate need for an extra pacer.

Originally, Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh were named as reserves by the selection committee when the World Cup squad was announced on April 30.

At present, Rinku and Khaleel are likely to remain with the squad and travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, where India will play their first Super 8 game on June 20.

The subsequent Super 8 matches are scheduled in Antigua on June 22 and in St. Lucia on June 24.

If they progress to the semifinals, it will be held in Georgetown, Guyana, on June 27, with the final set for Bridgetown on June 29.
