Fast bowler Josh Little, who has secured a spot in Ireland’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, will link up with his teammates following his commitments with the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Cricket Ireland has granted Little permission to skip the three T20Is against Pakistan at home (May 10-14) and a tri-series in Netherlands (May 19-24) featuring the hosts and Scotland.

Led by Paul Stirling, the squad will kick off their World Cup journey in North America with a warm-up match against Sri Lanka on May 31.

They find themselves grouped alongside India, Pakistan, USA, and Canada in the initial phase of the prestigious tournament.

Newcomers to the 2024 World Cup squad who didn’t feature in the previous edition 18 months ago in Australia include batter Mark Adair, keeper-batsman Neil Rock, and leg-spinner Ben White.

Notable absences from the campaign that saw Ireland clinch victories over West Indies and eventual champions England are Simi Singh, Stephen Doheny, Fionn Hand, and Conor Olphert.

“Our squad has been gradually crafted and tested over the past 18 months or so, ensuring we have the necessary skill sets covered.

Although we’ve allowed Josh [Little] to continue in the IPL until his team concludes their campaign, he’s expected to join us ahead of the major tournament,” remarked Heinrich Malan, Head Coach of Ireland Men’s team.

“We have a packed schedule of T20 cricket this month in preparation for the World Cup – seven matches in 15 days.

While these games serve as vital preparation, we approach them with the intention to win each one,” he added.

“As we approach the final stretch before the T20 World Cup, we anticipate a challenging couple of weeks, but we’re poised to confront any obstacles that come our way,” Malan concluded.
