T20 World Cup 2024 : David Miller of South Africa has received one demerit point for Level 1 violation

This marks Miller’s initial infraction within a 24-month span.

David Miller has received an official reprimand and one demerit point for breaching a Level 1 offense of the ICC Code of Conduct during a Super 8s Group 2 match against England in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Miller was found to be in violation of Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an international match.”

The incident unfolded in the penultimate over of South Africa’s innings when Miller faced a full toss from Sam Curran and anticipated it to be called a ‘no ball’ for its height.

However, when no such call was made, Miller displayed his dissatisfaction by signaling for a review of the decision, despite it being ineligible for review.

This marks Miller’s first infraction within a 24-month period, which he acknowledged and accepted the proposed sanction from match referee Jeff Crowe.

Hence, no formal hearing was required.

The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Chris Brown and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, alongside third umpire Joel Wilson and fourth umpire Chris Gaffaney.

Currently leading Group 2 with two victories in as many games, South Africa will face hosts West Indies in their final Super 8s fixture on Sunday (June 23).
