On June 4 (Tuesday), Bangladesh Cricket Board officials expressed optimism that Taskin Ahmed would be fully fit for the World Cup opener against Sri Lanka, with a final decision to be made following his bowling session on June 5.

Bangladesh is eagerly anticipating Taskin’s recovery for their opening game on June 7 in Dallas, especially since Shoriful Islam is set to miss the match due to six stitches in his left hand sustained during a warm-up game against India.

Despite his rib fracture from the fourth T20I against Zimbabwe, which caused him to miss the T20I series against the USA and the warm-up game against India, BCB included Taskin in the 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup.

Taskin began bowling on June 1 and was scheduled for an outdoor session on June 3, but heavy rain forced the team to practice indoors at Mustang Cricket Academy instead of Grand Prairie.

Taskin bowled three overs with higher intensity on June 3 compared to June 1.

BCB’s physio Bayjedul Islam Bayezid said a final decision on Taskin’s availability would be made after assessing his performance on June 5.

“Taskin has progressed well, Alhamdulillah.

Despite the rain, we had him bowl indoors on June 3, and he showed improvement,” Bayezid said.

“He is looking good, and we are closely monitoring his sessions with GPS data.

If there are any issues, we address them immediately.

His effort on June 3 was better, and we expect him to push further on June 5.

Bayezid added, “Taskin has a good chance of playing in the first match, which is why he is in the World Cup squad.

Typically, these injuries take four weeks to heal, and his progress is encouraging.

We will assess his outdoor session on June 5 to make a final decision.”

“We are hopeful he will be 100 percent by the seventh,” Bayezid concluded.

Regarding Shoriful Islam, Bayezid indicated that while he is likely to miss the opener against Sri Lanka, it is too early to rule him out for the entire tournament.

“We have time until the 16th for the group stage, and we hope he will recover before then.

Usually, stitches heal in seven to 10 days.

We will monitor his healing process and make a decision based on his progress,” Bayezid said.
