So, finally Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 2 wickets.

Sri Lanka’s hopes of advancing to the Super 8 stages in the T20 World Cup took a severe hit as they suffered a second consecutive loss, this time to Bangladesh.

Despite Nuwan Thushara’s valiant effort with a four-wicket haul, Sri Lanka couldn’t defend their modest total of 124, allowing Bangladesh to secure a two-wicket victory with just one over to spare.

The pivotal moment of the game unfolded during the death overs.

With Sri Lanka positioned well at 100/3 after 14 overs, a substantial total seemed within reach.

However, a double-wicket over from Rishad turned the tide as Sri Lanka faltered, managing only 24 runs in the final six overs.

This collapse proved decisive, sealing Sri Lanka’s fate.

Analyzing the phases of the game further:

Sri Lanka:

Powerplay: Sri Lanka asserted dominance during this phase, scoring 53/2 at a rate of 8.83 runs per over.

Despite losing early wickets, Pathum Nissanka’s aggressive batting set a strong foundation.

Middle overs: Bangladesh fought back during this phase, restricting Sri Lanka to 50/2 with a run rate of 5.55.

Nissanka’s dismissal triggered a momentum shift in favor of Bangladesh, who capitalized on the situation.

Death overs: Sri Lanka’s collapse was evident in this crucial phase, managing only 21/4 at a rate of 4.1 runs per over.

Thushara’s heroics aside, Sri Lanka failed to capitalize on their earlier momentum, resulting in a below-par total.

Bangladesh:

Powerplay: Bangladesh struggled in the early overs, scoring 34/3 at a rate of 5.66 runs per over.

Sri Lanka’s early breakthroughs put Bangladesh on the back foot, setting the tone for a challenging chase.

Middle overs: Towhid Hridoy’s impactful cameo shifted the momentum in Bangladesh’s favor, scoring 66/2 at a rate of 7.33.

Hridoy’s aggressive batting boosted Bangladesh’s confidence, swinging the pendulum in their direction.

Death overs: Bangladesh faced a tense moment as they approached the target.

However, Thushara’s crucial wickets and a momentary lapse in judgment from Rishad created tension.

Nevertheless, Mahmudullah’s six ultimately secured Bangladesh’s victory.

In summary, the game was won in the death overs, where Sri Lanka’s collapse and Bangladesh’s nerve held steady, allowing them to clinch a hard-fought win.
