Afghanistan announces its squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, including debutants Ishaq and Kharoti.

T20 World Cup 2024: Afghanistan extends a maiden world cup call-up to Ishaq and Kharoti

Afghanistan has selected Mohammad Ishaq, the 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Ishaq, who recently debuted in T20Is this year, secured his spot in the 15-member Afghanistan squad unveiled on Tuesday.

In addition to Ishaq, Karim Janat and Noor Ahmad are also notable inclusions in the side from the team that featured in the last edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Afghanistan has also enlisted Nangyal Kharoti, the 20-year-old left-arm spinning all-rounder, who made his international debut earlier this year.

His presence strengthens the already formidable spin attack led by skipper Rashid Khan, along with Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Noor Ahmad.

The pace department features Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooq.

Sediq Atal, Hazratullah Zazai, and Saleem Safi have been named as traveling reserves.

Afghanistan is set to kick off their campaign on June 3, facing Uganda in their opening encounter at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Subsequently, they will take on New Zealand at the same venue on June 7 before heading to Trinidad to play against Papua New Guinea.

Finally, they will travel to Gros Islet in St Lucia to face West Indies on June 13 and 17, respectively.
