Sunil Narine has ruled out a return to international cricket for the World Cup.

The KKR opener, who announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2023, firmly stated that the door on international cricket is “now closed”.

Sunil Narine has firmly ruled out an international comeback for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA.

The Kolkata Knight Riders opener, who last represented the West Indies in August 2019 and announced his retirement in November 2023, had sparked speculation about a return to the national team after scoring his maiden T20 century this IPL season.

In a sideline chat with the broadcaster, he had expressed openness to the idea, stating, “It is what it is but we will have to see what the future holds.”

His remarks prompted West Indies captain Rovman Powell to acknowledge how he had been encouraging Narine to reconsider retirement for almost a year.

However, in a statement released through KKR, Narine has addressed the speculation about his international comeback, confirming that “the door is now closed”.

“I’m truly flattered and humbled that my recent performances have prompted many to publicly express their desire for me to return to international cricket for the T20 World Cup,” Narine stated.

“I have made peace with my decision, and although I never intend to disappoint, I must acknowledge that the opportunity for an international return is no longer on the table.

Instead, I will be fully supporting the team as they take the field in June for West Indies,” he affirmed.

He concluded by expressing his best wishes to the team, emphasizing their hard work and deservingness to showcase their capabilities to the fans.
