The Bangladesh Cricket Board has made the decision to replace the injured Mushfiqur Rahim with the uncapped Towhid Hridoy in the 15-member squad for the inaugural match of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

Mushfiqur sustained a right thumb injury during the final ODI, resulting in his withdrawal from the squad.

Towhid, who debuted in March 2023 and has since played 30 ODIs and 14 T20Is, boasts a commendable record.

His first-class career includes 913 runs from 14 matches at an impressive average of 48.05, featuring three centuries and four half-centuries, with a highest score of 217.

The opening Test is set to commence on March 23 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, with the series finale scheduled for March 30 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Currently, Towhid is actively participating in the Dhaka Premier League, representing Abahani Limited, the country’s renowned list-A cricket tournament.

An official from the club informed Cricpulse on Wednesday (March 20) that Towhid is expected to rejoin the club following the opening Test if he does not make his Test debut.
