Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh Test Series, 2024

Litton Das makes his comeback in the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Litton Das was absent from the previous Test series against New Zealand.

Bangladesh have named uncapped pacer Nahid Rana in their 15-member squad for the opening Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka, set to take place in Sylhet from March 22.

Senior batter Litton Das returns after sitting out the previous Test series against New Zealand, while fast bowler Mushfik Hasan, who featured in the Test series against Afghanistan, has also been selected.

Wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan and left-arm spinner Hasan Morad, along with pacer Hasan Mahmud, who were part of the squad for the series against New Zealand, have not made the cut for the first Test against Sri Lanka.

“We believe the squad selected for the first Test possesses a well-rounded balance.

Our Test side is relatively stable, with Nahid Rana being the sole newcomer.

Liton (Das) is back after his absence in the last Test series due to leave.

We’ve ensured that all departments are adequately covered with backup options.

I am confident that we have a team capable of adapting to various conditions,” stated National Selection Panel member Abdur Razzak in a Monday statement.

“Rana is an exciting prospect.

He is arguably the fastest bowler in Bangladesh currently and can generate steep bounce.

Though it’s early in his career, his first-class record is impressive.

Additionally, we have another promising young pacer in Mushfik Hasan in the squad.

This presents an ideal opportunity for these pacers to gain valuable experience, especially with Ebadot (Hossain) sidelined due to injury and Taskin (Ahmed) not featuring in Tests currently,” he added.

Following the opening game in Sylhet, the series will move to Chattogram, with the second Test scheduled to commence on March 30.

Both matches are part of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
