Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh ODI Series 2024

What might be the reasons behind Litton Das’s recent struggles?

Litton Das has failed to reach a fifty in his past 10 ODI innings.

What has led to Litton Kumar Das, once hailed as the most promising batsman in Bangladesh’s cricketing circle, being dropped from the Bangladesh ODI squad for the final ODI against Sri Lanka?

Despite being considered one of Bangladesh’s brightest talents, Litton’s recent struggles in the ODI format have been evident, particularly with two consecutive ducks in the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka, both dismissals coming against left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka.

In his ODI career spanning 90 innings, Litton has been dismissed 17 times by left-arm pacers, averaging only 21.41 against them.

According to Nazmul Abedin, a respected Bangladesh coach who has closely observed Litton’s development since his early days, Litton’s downfall can be attributed to his lack of control over shot selection.

Abedin highlighted an instance from the recent matches where a slight adjustment in shot placement could have made a difference, indicating Litton’s struggle to place the ball accurately to evade fielders.

Moreover, Abedin noted that Litton’s inconsistent technique is another major factor contributing to his decline.

Litton’s frequent alterations in his batting technique have impacted his natural game, making him less effective at the crease.

Abedin emphasized the importance of a stable technique and expressed concern over Litton’s tendency to experiment with his approach.

Litton’s recent performance record also raises concerns, with no half-centuries in his last ten innings and only two fifties in his last twenty, both in losing causes during the 2023 World Cup.

With just 313 runs in 14 ODIs at an average of 24.07 since the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Litton’s lack of consistent contributions further jeopardizes his position in the team.

Abedin highlighted Litton’s struggle to play the ball late as another significant issue, leading to untimely dismissals.

The inability to gauge the ball’s height and movement at the last moment has left Litton vulnerable to mistimed shots and subsequent wickets.

Consistency has long been a challenge for Litton, often experiencing dips in form following brief spells of success.

Unless he addresses these fundamental issues and establishes a more stable presence in the team, Litton’s status as a talented batsman may not be enough to secure his place in the side.
