Asitha Fernando has been called up as a replacement for Rajitha, who returned home to commence rehabilitation.

“Kasun Rajitha will not be available for the second Test match as the player has suffered an injury to his left upper back area,” stated SLC on Wednesday.

Rajitha, who delivered an impressive performance in the opening Test at Sylhet, played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s victory, securing eight wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings, contributing to their massive 328-run win.

The right-arm medium-fast bowler sustained the injury during the first Test but managed to play through it.

Both teams have arrived in Chattogram ahead of the second game and will commence preparations on Thursday for the crucial match, which counts towards the ICC Test Championship.

Shakib Al Hasan, who made himself available for this contest, will also join the team in their preparations.

The star all-rounder recently featured for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club against Gazi Group Cricketers in the Dhaka Premier League, scoring a brisk 53 off 65 balls and claiming two wickets for 14 runs to secure victory for his team by 39 runs, effectively preparing himself for the upcoming encounter against Sri Lanka.
