2nd Test Day-2

Bangladesh remains optimistic about pushing for a win despite Sri Lanka’s dominance on Day 2

Bangladesh spent a total of 159 overs on the field during the first two days.

David Hemp, Bangladesh’s batting coach, expressed determination on Sunday despite Sri Lanka’s formidable first-innings total of 531 and their dominance over the first two days of play in the second Test in Chhatogram.

He asserted that his team would strive for a victory.

“Sri Lanka’s record-breaking 531, despite lacking a centurion, presents a formidable challenge.

However, we remain resolute in our pursuit of a win,” Hemp conveyed to reporters at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

“Our focus now lies on negotiating the game tomorrow.

If we can achieve that, we’ll continue to build on it in the following days.

In cricket, especially from a batting perspective, fortunes can shift unexpectedly.”

Speaking about the challenge posed by the new ball, Hemp elaborated, “Playing the new ball demands careful management, particularly for opening batters.

Breaking it down into manageable segments is crucial.

Players across the globe encounter this scenario in Test or first-class cricket.

It’s about adapting and preparing oneself mentally for the task ahead.”

As for Sri Lankan batsman Kamindu Mendis, he reflected on his innings and the team’s overall performance, stating, “While falling short of a century is disappointing personally, contributing to the team’s score exceeding 500 is immensely satisfying.

Trusting the tail-enders and the collective effort of our top-order batsmen were pivotal in achieving this milestone.

Cricket is unpredictable; sometimes centuries come, other times they don’t.

What matters is the team’s success, and we’ve executed our plan effectively.”
