2nd Test

Shakib Al Hasan is expected to feature in the second Test against Sri Lanka.

Shakib’s last appearance in a Test match was in April 2023.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Friday that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is anticipated to make his return for the second Test of the ongoing two-match series against Sri Lanka, set to commence on March 30.

Initially, the BCB had indicated that Shakib, who was absent during the white-ball series against Sri Lanka and had also missed the series against New Zealand, would not be available for the Tests.

However, the all-rounder has since had a change of heart and informed the board of his desire to participate in the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

“We anticipate his availability for the second Test against Sri Lanka as he has expressed his desire to play.

There is still ample time for him to fully prepare for the game,” stated a senior BCB official to Cricpulse on Friday.

Shakib’s return will provide a significant boost for the hosts, especially with the absence of Mushfiqur Rahim, who was sidelined from the series due to a thumb injury.

Shakib’s last Test appearance dates back to April 2023 when he represented the hosts against Ireland on home turf.

In preparation for his international comeback, Shakib recently joined Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to participate in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League, the country’s traditional List A tournament, aiming to garner more time in the middle with the bat.

The ongoing series forms a part of the third cycle of the ICC Test Championship.
