Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh Test Series, 2024

2nd Test Day-4 Highlights:

Bangladesh team has played nicely in the 2nd Innings but Sri Lanka team is very close to win the 2nd test and to sweep the series with 2-0

Prabath Jayasuriya claimed the crucial wicket of Mominul Haque.

Sri Lanka scored 531 (1st Innings) & 157/7 decl. (2nd Innings), where as Bangladesh scored 178 (1st Innings) & 268/7 (2nd Innings) at the stumps of Day-4.

So, finally Bangladesh need 243 runs to win the 2nd Test.

Led by an attacking half-century from Mominul Haque and useful contributions from Shakib Al Hasan (36), Litton Das (38), and Mehidy Hasan (44*), Bangladesh staged a defiant act of resistance on the fourth day of the second Test against Sri Lanka.

However, the visitors maintained control of the game in Chhatogram, as the hosts reached stumps on Tuesday at 268 for 7, still requiring 243 runs to win the Test and level the series.

Angelo Mathews and Prabath Jayasuriya, who had steadied the Sri Lankan innings on the third day, added 30 runs to their overnight partnership before Mathews departed soon after reaching his half-century.

A classic left-arm spinner’s delivery from Shakib had Mathews beaten on the outside edge, leading to his dismissal.

Sri Lanka then declared their second innings at 157 for 7, setting Bangladesh a target of 512 runs to chase with more than five sessions of play remaining.

Bangladesh displayed an aggressive approach in pursuit of the target.

Mahmudul Hasan and Zakir Hasan took an active role at the crease, focusing on rotating the strike.

They managed to accumulate runs steadily, reaching 31 for no loss at lunch.

However, Mahmudul’s aggression led to his downfall as he was dismissed by Jayasuriya shortly after lunch.

Vishwa Fernando then struck to remove Zakir, leaving Bangladesh at 51 for 2.

Despite losing wickets, Mominul Haque continued to attack the Sri Lankan bowlers.

He found boundaries regularly and showcased his intent with aggressive strokes.

However, a breakthrough came when he top-edged a sweep and fell to Jayasuriya after reaching his half-century.

Shakib and Litton Das then steadied the innings with a 61-run partnership for the fifth wicket, but Sri Lanka struck back to dismiss both batsmen in quick succession.

Nevertheless, Mehidy Hasan maintained Bangladesh’s attacking momentum, supported by Shahdat Hossain and Taijul Islam.

Mehidy’s aggressive batting, marked by seven boundaries, propelled Bangladesh to 268 for 7 at stumps, keeping their hopes alive despite the challenging target set by Sri Lanka.
