So, finally Bangladesh won the match by 8 wickets.

Bangladesh delivers an all-round performance, securing an impressive 8-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the second T20I to level the series 1-1.

The outcome sets the stage for an exciting decider on Saturday, once more in Sylhet.

Match Summary:

Sri Lanka, opting to bat first, set Bangladesh a target of 166 runs, which proved to be challenging but manageable.

Despite a solid partnership between Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis, the team stumbled as wickets fell at crucial intervals.

Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, and Dasun Shanaka attempted to rebuild, but the innings concluded at 165/5, with Najmul Hossain Shanto leading Bangladesh’s bowling attack.

In response, Bangladesh got off to an excellent start with a dynamic 63-run powerplay.

Although losing openers Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy’s composed partnership ensured Bangladesh reached the target comfortably with 11 balls to spare, setting up a thrilling decider for the series.

Notably, Matheesha Pathirana, who suffered from cramps in the previous match, experienced further injury concerns, requiring him to leave the field after bowling 3.4 overs.

This raised questions about his availability, especially considering his upcoming participation in IPL 2024 with the Chennai Super Kings.

A moment of controversy emerged in the fourth over of Bangladesh’s chase when Soumya Sarkar was given out caught behind off Binura Fernando.

However, the third umpire reversed the decision, sparking dissatisfaction among the Sri Lankan players and coach Chris Silverwood.

Commentary Snippet:

3.1 Binura Fernando to Soumya Sarkar, no run, Soumya Sarkar has been given out caught behind but he takes the review straightaway! Was a skiddy back of a length ball that angled in from around off, Soumya Sarkar looked to pull it across and seemed to have got a bit of bat on it as the ball carried through to Kusal Mendis.

Time for the replays.

UltraEdge rolls in and there’s a spike but the third umpire reckons that there’s daylight between bat and ball.

He reckons that the spike appeared after the ball had passed the bat.

There was a clear noise on the stump mic though.

The Sri Lankan players are not pleased one bit and are talking to both the umpires.
