Kasun Rajitha’s five-wicket haul sealed the deal for Sri Lanka on the fourth day, propelling them to a 1-0 lead in the two-match series with a commanding 328-run victory.

Bangladesh, tasked with chasing an almost insurmountable 511, had faltered early, stumbling to 47/5 by stumps on the third day.

Their struggle persisted as they could only muster 135 runs on the final day, ultimately folding for 182.

Rajitha wasted no time on the fourth day, striking early in the morning session.

He dismissed Taijul Islam leg-before-wicket just two overs into the day’s play, and although he thought he had Mehidy Hasan soon after, a review proved otherwise.

Despite the onslaught of boundaries from Mehidy and Mominul Haque, Sri Lanka’s desperation led to another failed review.

The barrage of boundaries eventually halted when Rajitha induced an edge off Mehidy, finding the fielder at second slip.

Mominul continued to battle valiantly alongside the tail, managing a well-deserved half-century, but Sri Lanka continued to chip away at the other end.

Rajitha, reintroduced into the attack, struck twice in quick succession, dismissing Shoriful Islam and then Khaled Ahmed off consecutive deliveries to complete his five-wicket haul.

In a last-ditch effort to reach his century, Mominul unleashed an assault, smashing Prabath Jayasuriya for 6,4,4 in an over.

However, Lahiru Kumara dashed his hopes, taking the crucial wicket at the other end to secure victory and earn Sri Lanka their first points in the World Test Championship standings.
