Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh Test Series, 2024

1st Test Day-2 Highlights:

Sri Lanka retains lead despite Bangladesh’s late resurgence in the match.

Sri Lanka extends lead to 211 runs by day’s end.

Sri Lanka scored 280 (1st Innings) and 119/5 (2nd Innings), where as Bangladesh scored 188 (1st Innings).

So, finally Sri Lanka lead by 211 runs at the stumps of Day-2

The formidable pace trio of Vishwa Fernando (4-48), Lahiru Kumara (3-31), and Kasun Rajitha (3-56) propelled Sri Lanka to maintain their dominance at the end of day two in the first Test against Bangladesh in Sylhet.

Starting the day at a precarious 32/3, Bangladesh continued to suffer batting collapses, with some dismissals stemming from shot-making indecision and others from ill-advised strokes unsuitable for the pitch conditions.

Surprisingly, night watchman Taijul Islam (47) exhibited the most resilience, emerging as the top-scorer amidst the turmoil.

Lahiru Kumara initiated the downfall by dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy early in the morning session.

Despite promising starts from Shahadat Hossain and Litton Das, Kumara prevented them from capitalizing on their innings.

Vishwa and Rajitha then cleaned up the tail, albeit facing some resistance from the hosts, thus limiting the first innings deficit.

This spirited resistance carried over into the bowling department, notably with debutant Nahid Rana (2-42) leading Bangladesh’s attack in the final session.

Dimuth Karunaratne’s fifty provided stability for Sri Lanka, yet he lacked substantial support from the other end, especially with Angelo Mathews failing to capitalize on his start.

Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored a century in the first innings, remains at the crease alongside Kamindu, another centurion from the first innings.

Despite the precarious situation in this innings, Sri Lanka’s 92-run lead from the first innings has bolstered their position in a match where batting has become increasingly challenging.
